G'morning Aloinopsis,
Do you eventually de-graft them and re-root them?
Yes I do. I will degraft/root when scions reached to 3 cm in diameter. It will be the end of this year.
I experienced to root Strombocactus disciformis. It was not so difficult.
I have not grafted mine.
I just grafted 8 scions only.
100 own-root seedlings also have grown well. The growing speed is slow but there are no issues.

A scion, Ariocarpus pectinatus has pushed a flowering bud up which is the 1st flowering bud for the scion.
Since it is winter, the bud will not open.
The temperature in the greenhouse was 3 'C in this morning.

A scion, Strombocactus disciformis has formed several flowering buds.
They may not be opened because it is still in winter.

My standard procedure of seedling grafting with Pereskiopsis stock is:

1. Cut an off-shoot of Pereskiopsis, 15 cm length
2. Insert the off-shoot into wet potting-mix in a 5 cm square tube immediately for the rooting
3. 7 days after the insertion, a seedling is grafted. No roots are developed on the stock at that time.
4. 10 days after the grafting, the stock with scion is ropotted in a 9 cm square pot.

There are no roots on the stock when the scion is grafted. This can minimise the sap flow.
The potting-mix is wet completely between the above process 2 and 4.
I can see some roots development of the stock during in the process 4.

Hello Frank

first time posting here

May I ask about
Insert the off-shoot into wet potting-mix in a 5 cm square tube immediately for the rooting
5 cm square tube is a pot with potting-mix right?

and where you kept Pereskiopsis on the process 2-4

Thanks

G'morning chayanat,

Yes I use organic base potting-mix. Refer to the photo 1.

Stocks with scions are on a pad which is accommodated in a large plastic box. Refer to the photo 2.
Water is filled in the bottom of pad.
The large plastic box has a lid.

Haloo frank
I have questions in this graft session
When you put scion on to peres did you give some press method ? And where you place them when grafting ?
I used told by some people here that when grafting cacti must avoiding sun light so when I'm grafting cacti I place them under my table
And about degrafting
It is true that degrafting plant have issues in slow growing progress and little root ?

G'morning Kaktus.idn,
When you put scion on to peres did you give some press method ? And where you place them when grafting ?
I used told by some people here that when grafting cacti must avoiding sun light so when I'm grafting cacti I place them under my table
I do not give any pressuer on the scion.
Both stock and scion will shrink during grafting process and a gap formed between the stock and scion.
As the result, the grafting will fail in a normal grafting if there was no pressure on the scion.
I use very small scion and keep them in a 100% humidity box and so no shrinkage will occure on both stock and scion.
The above is the reason which I do not give any pressure on scion during grafting process.

I use 2 large plastic boxes for my grafting process.
One was shown before on the photo which can keep 18 stock, 4 days.
The other is also same size which can keep grafted scions and stocks, 18 sets 10 days.

Both boxes are covered by 50% shade cloths.

It is true that degrafting plant have issues in slow growing progress and little root ?
It is not true.
A degrafted cacti grow fine roots only, no tap roots.
Cacti grow by fine roots only. Tap roots do not affect on the growing speed.
The growing speed will reduce compared to grafted one but it is same as a normal own-root cacti.
