How to get email notifications?

Hello. I have checked my settings in 3 places (this forum, my hotmail.com settings, my antivirus) hoping to get the email notifications to work, to no avail. i turned on all the notifications and double checked my email address in the settings. i have also used the search function here and read many post. has anyone had a similar experience with hotmail.com? Also i didn't receive any notification when i joined this forum letting me know was now a member (if that information helps). Thank you to all here, this is a great forum!

From what i have read, there is an additional security measure that prevents phpbb's from being accepted by hotmail. therefore I will change my email to a gmail account i have and see if that fixes the problem. If anyone does find a fix for hotmail, please be sure to post! Thank you.

UPDATE: after changing my email to gmail it does work now!
