Acanthocerus?

I found these plants while vacationing in Panama City, Panama (two thumbs up!) at Culebra Point Park. They are spreading in habit and have small spines.
Looking at the literaure, I think they may be A. columbianus, Can anyone confirm or suggest other possibilities?
