The habitat shots are phenomenal. Go to the Copiapoathon links and you will find that each photo has a link. (Maybe I should have said each link has a photo )Well worth the effort to navigate through and find them.

Also, there is a 2.4 mb pdf of Ritter's "40 years of Adventuring" in German and English. Definitely an unusual read.

wow! those are wonderful habitat photos from Southern AZ. Unfortunately there are some misidentified plants.

I think the plant identified as Mammillaria mainiae is M. grahamii. Proper mainiae looks more like viridiflora/wilcoxii/wrightii except for the spiral arrangement of spines.

I also think the plant identified as Peniocereus greggii greggii is greggii transmontanus, the Sonoran Desert form.

Also, the plant identified as Echinocereus triglochidiatus is more properly E. coccineus, a female. E. triglochidiatus has perfect flowers with functional male and female parts and E. coccineus is dioecious. The plant pictured has non-functional stamens.

I actually tried to email these suggested corrections to the photographer but his email isn't working.

Koehres has an incredible website with great photos, many from habitat. I just spent a good while looking at them all. I especially appreciate photos of stuff that's not even taxonomically recognized, just to see what it looks like.

Hi all,

Just found this very cool site containing micro photographs of cacti. I think he is using Mamillaria microhelia, Mammillaria matudae, and I have no idea what the columnar is.

Not sure how accurate this site is or isn't, but...

Contains information on plants that isn't given on some other sites, such as typical size reached, hardiness zones, preferred exposure, preferred soil pH etc.

As I said, no idea how accurate the results may be (and non-members are limited to ten of the above searches a day, though you can get unlimited normal searches - these tend to bring the whole genus back though ), but if someone else wants to verify that, it could be a useful additional tool!
