They are easy for me as all other Mammillarias. Maybe is my climate that helps. No real cold here. Winter is dry and I dont give them water, but it is not really cold. Apparently this help them grow. I have already sowed two batches of M. pectinifera. Bag method etc... no special treatment. But in the first repot they are transfered to a pure grit mix (grit, charcoal and diatomite). Maybe this helps also. They seem to like this mix, as all other mexican species. Depending on the species I add a calcareous rock in the mix. Never add soil or sand.

They all look very good. If no soil you use fertilizer ? I mostly grow the Mexican miniatures also. There are so many different species from Mexico with amazing variety . Plus new rare discoveries even now .

Hi Keith, thank you.
Yes I use a solution of very diluted fertilizer (have to check the formulae but is something like NPK 12-25-25 plus micros).
I use this solution during the 6 hot months of the year.
Almost every watering is with this solution and sometimes pure water to wash down any excess that may accumulate.

I am interested in what you are using too. What dilution rate? NPK is that USA N-P2O5-K2O? or something else? Learned that here that different countries use different labels.

Back in your Nov 2016 pics, you have a Pilosocereus pachycladus mistakenly labeled as Pachycereus pachycladus. Your plants must look great now 5 years later. Some pics?

Yes, sure, thanks for the correction, it is for sure a Pilosocereus.
In fact I have 3 different Pilosocereus that I would call pachycladus...maybe they are not all of the same species...
Pictures soon.
Thanks!

I found both of these Matucana madisoniorum sitting amongst a tray of gymno's at a home depot. At the time they were spineless, but I knew they were not gymno's. 6 month later the long black spines and flowers like yours. They have almost doubled in size since I acquired them.

Mmcavall; I started reading your blog from the beginning, you really have a lot of beautiful plants ! 🙂 But what really caught my attention was the miniature landscapes you created in various pots/containers! Very , very nice with few and ‘simple’ materials! You certainly have an eye for it and understands that quite often; ‘less is more’ It really added an extra dimension to the collection. 👍👍👍
