IDs Needed - Trying to get my collection tagged.

Post by Vipassana »

Between handouts at the local C&S meetings and my very bad habit of cruising the clearance racks at the local big-box stores (Altman Plants mislabels abound!), I've picked up quite a few unknown plants. Since I had today free, I thought I'd try to get some identified and tagged.

#1: Was told it made large fruits. Ribs are very thin.

#2: Gymnocalycium mihanovichii is my guess...
Image

#3: Chamaelobivia of some sort...
Image

#4: Mammillaria... that narrows it down to ~170 types. Large spines point upwards.

#5: Mammillaria... Large spines point upwards and outwards.
Image

#6: Mammillaria... Hooked spines, aggressive pup formation at the base.
Image

#7: Notocactus uebelmannianus is my guess based on others I've seen that look similar. It's in a 7.5" pot to get an idea of size. Rescued from Walmart for $7. The buds sold me on it.

#8: No clue on this guy. He is missing spines on half. I cannot tell if they were removed very meticulously or if he has some genetic abnormality? There re very small ones on the bald side here and there. I suppose we'll see as he grows larger.

Awesome. Those look to be correct, thank you. Do you think #5 could be a M. Matudae as well. They look somewhat similar.

Your ids on the other ones look correct to me. I'd say the last one is Mammillaria something. :-k. Sorry I can't be more help.

#5 seems to be one of the countless forms of Mammillaria haageana.
#7 seems to be either N. uebelmannianus (Parodia werneri) or N. crassigibbus (Parodia crassigibba). Flower colour will tell, violet for the former and yellow for the latter.
Z, in (mostly) sunny Lisbon.

Thank you so much for the help, everyone. The last one is still a bit of a mystery I think. Especially the strange baldness.
