When to harvest chistmas cctus seeds?

Post by Gail »

I pollinated some Christmas cactus in January and now I have two bright pink fruit that are starting to get soft. They feel like a slightly over ripe blueberry. I figure the seeds are ready to harvest but I wanted to double check before I pick them. When I do harvest, do I just cut the fruit open and clean out the seeds?

It's pretty much impossible to wait to long to harvest seeds, the last thing that you would want to do would be to pick to early and compromise your seed. However if they are starting to get soft its probably fine. I like to leave the fruits on there until they dry up. it makes seed collection easier too.

Maybe I'll leave them be for now, at least until they start to get wrinkly.
