Four Nice Ones

Post by Sir Spikesalot »

Just wondering if anyone can ID any of these? They are new and were not fully Id'd by the nursery. I just received them in the mail so some of them still have dirt in the spines, they were shipped in pots. Any help would be greatly appreciated. According to the tags I have a Gymnocactus, Submatucana, Pyrrhocactus, and Neoporteria. Which ones I am not sure, I understand that these are synonyms for more common genus such as turbincarpus and eriosyce.

2. Matucana aureiflora?
3. Pyrrhocactus (Eriosyce) curvispina?
4. Neoporteria (Eriosyce) villosa?

Oroya maybe, but if Submatucana is what you ordered then #2 is it.

I think they're sorted by genus now. Presumably you have the species names? Vlani spotted a few strands of long wool on #3, but E. floccosa would normally have a lot more than this. Maybe it has been grown in the dark.

I'd not put too much fate into nursery people when they unable to fully ID plants they sell ;) They are reselling most likely. I've seen mistakes much worse than taking Oroya for Matucana aureflora from very reputable sellers.

E. floccosa-s seem to be pretty variable in the amount of wool they grow, unfortunately. There are some completely naked forms out there
