Finally, not perhaps "red", the colorful spines of Echinocactus texensis glazed in winter's ice.

Still thinking on my entry, but if I was Adilson, I would have a hard time deciding which of these Melocactus ernestii photos to include:

Especially Ferrocactus and Thelocactus spines seem to brighten up in color when the spines are (sprayed ) wet with water.
Tony´s picture illustrates that very well.
I couldn´t find a picture of a sprayed thelocactus - so here is a dry one

I posted a wet cactus, but was tempted not to cheat and show some spines that are red when dry ...

Maybe because those are thorns not spines!
Since few of us are botanists here I doubt it really matters, I just couldn't resist.
