Rain in Arizona

Post by Peterthecactusguy »

Hey all. It's been raining for the past three nights here in AZ. Where I live we have gotten 2.3 inches of rain so far, with it still raining. My front yard and back yard have standing water, and some of my plants are in lakes. I am slightly worried, but one is an Opuntia.. so hopefully it will be fine once it dries out. I brought in most of my plants(in pots I mean, would be fun to try and squeeze a 12 foot tall saguaro thought the door), I left some of my Opuntia outside. Will see what happens to them..

Good luck to you Peter!
There doesn't seem to be much you can do but rely on mother nature now. Hope all goes well.

Don't worry. Cacti grow in this area and get rained on like this nearly every winter and still survive.

oh I know. I was here in Jan of 2010, it rained way more then than it did with this storm. But it still is kinda sad watching my cacti reside in lakes instead of dry ground. I am sure they all will be fine anyways. :)

well most of the water is gone, an Agave next to my driveway was still in a puddle when I left, all my water bottles are filled with water, waiting for use next spring/summer. And I got some of my X-mas lights up. I also got 2.5 inches of rain since last Thurs/Friday night.

finally the clouds have broken and it's a clear cool night. We had some fog too I think last night, but it was short lived. :) BTW the puddles are gone so my plants are going to be ok now I think :)

yeah it's appearing like we are going to get some rain, looks like a passing shower went over my house, and more rain is off to the west. I might need to find space inside my house to let me soil dry out.. (if it will) so I can start my seeds. Get any rain drops your way yet?

Get ready for the cold. Last night below 30 and it seems headed your way. :)

yeah it was chilly last night, went down to around 35ish.. I woke up and it was 48 outside, at around noonish lol. Cold weather is here. I am glad I brought in most of my potted plants.

Tonite will be cold I am sure. it was partly cloudy for part of the night, with rain.. so we should be clear tonite.. and much colder.
BTW we got around half an inch of rain. :)

It was 33 degrees in the greenhouse last night and 67 for today's high. Seedling bed 49 degrees and high for the day, 76. Don't know how long it was at that low. The Ag fans starting running around 2am. :?

wow it was chilly in your greenhouse. Do you use a heating pad for your seedling bed? I think 49 is a little low for seedlings. It was a balmy 52 degrees inside my house when I got home last night around 4am. It was cold, but I have an electric heater and an electric blanket so I was plenty warm. My Mamms are still blooming.. despite the cold!

It rained Tues. night/Wed. morning. I'm not sure how much -- I slept through most of it.

There's a freeze warning for the Phoenix metro area tonight. It's 41F in my neck of the woods right now (12:31 a.m.).

I will find out in about 10 mins what the temp is here. I was studying cacti stuff. :) It was however chilly last time I poked my head out the door around 11pm.
