New bed finally underway.
Re: New bed finally underway.
Thanks Susi.
Goes both ways too during the time when I head into winter with plants wrinkeling up and it's kicking off in the northen hemisphere
Here's some photos of that second Echinopsis flush and also some randoms from the last week.
To heavy for it's own good?
Lovely purple again.
That offset turned flowerbud.
White/purple
Lobivia in the second bed
M. compressa after some long awaited rains.
Wide shot of that bed, some plants hiding behind the others.

Few more from the last few days.
Lenny saw fit to pump out a first flower for the year. Can really tell now how much it's grown since last summer.
Madly growing M. geometrizans, that's 6 new stems starting out from just one section.
Getting fat!

A years worth of C. peruvians growth.
December 21st last year after just having been transplanted.
And today, just days shy of a year later.
Think I have a problem brewing here!

I'd say everybody's REALLY happy! One more year & your bed will be nearly solid cacti!
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!

Unfortunately I don't, I believe it came with either a Trichocereus terscheckii or Trichocereus pasacana label but the nursery it came from is unreliable when it comes to their labeling in lots of cases.
All I know it that I have what likely could be another gigant on my hands

Brunaozinho - my 1st "gut" reaction was T. terscheckii because I have one just @ that size & got it from a reliable U.S./Internet C & S nursery.

Just about everything seem to of got through our recent heatwave with only minimal scorching, can tell that some plants shrunk somewhat but nothing out of the ordinary. Just hoping for some well needed rains now to plump everything up again and kickstart another growth period.
Here's some more random snaps after a well needed weeding session this afternoon.
T. scopulicola has started it's first new stem.
New growth on an unknown, looks almost grafted.
T. peruvians starting some new stems aswell as new spines from old areoles.
Lovely coloured new growth, Pilosocereus azureus
M. polythele going strong
Colourful new spines on this Fero
F. herrerae throwing some new areoles aswell.
N. magnificus (I think) with a heap of new heads forming
What happens when you weed alittle to carelessly around M. gracilis....lots of new plants
And lastly S. megalanthus that graced me with another flower.

Does have it's positives Though trying to sleep on a stinking warm night isn't one of them!
And the weather gods must of heared my wishes, had a slow steady rain fall all last night and into the day so the plants should of got themselves a nice deep drink.

Well what do you know, my C. peruvians that's so far as stubbornly refused to flower has set it's first buds Still to be taken out by the end of summer as it just isn't suitable for where it is but atleast I'll get to see it flower before then.
Here's 2 out of the 5 buds I've spotted so far.
Could be that the lady at the local nursery was right, last time I talked to her she was scarching her head with the mystery of a 8+ foot C. peruvians not flowering. She pointed out that theirs generally set buds a few days after decent rains and we had just that last week.
And my little oddity, offset turned flowerbud on an Echinopsis seem to be still growing

Re: New bed finally underway.
Few outdoors Mammillaria's from the other day. Been getting some well needed rain again so things are kicking off once again.
All of these came with M. matzalensis tags but I'm pretty sure one is wrong.
M. polythele, keeps it's flowers under guard.
M. compressa turning into a nice little clump by now.
And one for Maja...somewhere under all those fronds there's still a stack of seeds. With all it's pups it's starting to get quite massive!

I was just saying to my co-worker what a Cycas it was, when I saw this one was for me.

This is one of the coolest things I've seen! Lookin' great, good growing!
May I ask! What is the ID on this one?

Thanks.
Managed to make it through summer mostly without any casualties, apart from that big Cereus that fell over on me.
Unfortunately I don't have a solid ID on that one, all I know is that it's an Echinopsis of some sort..likely hybrid of E. oxygona and something else.
