Post by Bill in SC »

The folks from the Garden Forums started a mug shot thread so you can see who you are talking to.. Seems like a good idea.. I'll start it off, if anyone wants to follow...

The prickly one is the Saguaro...

Oh btw since bill has done a count, thought I'd do likewise... 895 (not including all my 1 year old seedlings) ...I haven't bought many lately

I'm not sure how many plants I have, but there's about 400 species.

Here is my main outdoor cactus garden mugshot, I have some some shade coverage over about 20' x 8'. I have 8 saguaros, 2 cardon, 6 senita, a few palo verde trees, a bunch of cereus, opuntias, and more in there. Mostly columnars. Some of my mamillarias are bigger than some of my saguaros at the moment. I have lots of cacti all over the yard and in pots too.

A few of you old-timers will remember that we did this once in the past, but deleted the thread since out of a concern for space. I remember John described himself as a cross between Clint Eastwood and Robert Redford and it was very true!

That was back before I knew how much activity we could handle here. Now I know we can certainly fill out this thread and leave it going this time.

I'll join in the fun. Here are two of me (you've seen them before):

Very neat idea :D It can help to put a face to the nickname. Well, I'm glad this isn't a picture contest, nobody would vote for this one
Here I am pondering whether it's all going to fit in the greenhouse. This isn't even half of it. You should see the back patio. 481 species/varieties of cacti and succulents and counting. Thank goodness some of them are cold hardy.

This thread is a lot of fun :) I'm afraid the prickly is better looking than me, but fortunately none of you collect eldery Irish nitwits  At least I don't think you do!
