The Super Glue Method is easier than any other...
Re: Grafting is Easy with the Twisty Tie Method
I was getting 100% grafting success until this week.
Out of about 14 I did, 5 of them didn't take
I always wanted a collection of the small Ariocarpus species grafted.
So I pulled nice sized seedlings out of A. agavoides, kotschoubeyanus, bravoanus, hintonii
and grafted them all on Harrisia, and in less than a week they all fell off when I poked them
Not sure I didn't line up the centers properly or if the stock was not ready.
I can reroot the Ariocarpus as cuttings, since the cuts healed and look viable,
and I may retry some on other stock.

Re: Grafting is Easy with the Twisty Tie Method
Here is another problem I have.
Fungus growth on the bamboo sticks when inside the baggy If I leave the graft inside the baggy too long, the fungus spreads to the graft contact area.
You can see some black fungus around the contact zone on the above plant
If you take the bag off and let it dry before it's too late, the fungus will die off.

Microwave your chopsticks!
Re: Grafting is Easy with the Twisty Tie Method
I never re-rooted any grafting stock last year, so the only stock were long sections that pupped off some old stock.
So the plan was to graft onto the long sections and just build a little stick scaffolding to hold the scion down And the future plan is to cut the stock at the joint and re-root the short section

Re: Grafting is Easy with the Twisty Tie Method
Working on a lot of grafting this year
Some of the stuff
Copiapoa dealbata and cinerea Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus After one week, this Copiapoa cinerea is plumping up nicely Super tiny Copiapoa dealbata Not using the best stock for Tephrocactus geometricus
I should of used a wider stock

Re: Grafting is Easy with the Twisty Tie Method
Cant' get enough Copiapoas
C. cinerea and haseltoniana
3 weeks I'm really happy that this one is still alive and growing
A 2 year old Neowerdermannia vorwerkii seedling that I nursed along
It was sidewise the day after grafting, so I had to re-graft a smaller section I cut off 2 small regular heads off this Pelecyphora aselliformis rooted crest

The Super Glue Method is easier than any other...
I was trying to use my old method of twisty ties and it wasn't working
and the obvious remedy to my dilemma was to just glue it on
Will have to go to page one and revise soon...
Astrophytum caput-medusae
Just trying to balance the tiny sliver on the stock, trying to get a twisty tie to hold it down was not happening
Dab some super glue on the edges and it's solid Forest of Puna One thing weird is that the stock turns this worrisome color after a day or 2 bagged (see page 1)
It seems to go back to near normal after a couple days in fresh air

Re: Grafting is Easy with the Twisty Tie Method
There was an excess of seedlings that could be grafted

Not sure why the title hasn't changed after I changed Post No. 1
Some have the new title "Super Glue" some don't

Re: The Super Glue Method is easier than any other...
A bunch of Astrophytum caput-medusae
A couple of the grafted Uebelmannia buiningii A stack of Ariocarpus (some variegated)
and Turbinicarpus rioverdensis
One of the many Astrtopia hybrids grafted We will check back in six months

It's been way over six months for the check in (last post Oct 2022)
But it would of been useless at 6 months, I needed 10 months to show anything worth looking at
Some of the good stuff
Copiapoa haseltonia and cinerea
Ariocarpus variegated and others Neowerdermannia vorwerkii, Uebelmannia buiningii
wish it had a fatter connection to the graft My new hope for future propagation
An Astrotopia hybrid
I named it -
"It's a Hot Mess"
The rows of spines are nice
I did find a need to use the old twisty tie method for these big scoins
Ortegocactus and large clone of T. geometricus, after taking a cutting from last year's graft

‘It’s A Hot Mess’ looks very wild and cool!
What is your preferred grating stick or you use what you have to fit the scion?
Thank you

Re: The Super Glue Method is easier than any other...
I like Myrtillocactus cochal the best now
The photos above are both Myrtillocactus cochal and M. eichlamii
I also use Harrisia jusbertii

Very cool grafts. I like your Astrotopia.
Re: The Super Glue Method is easier than any other...
These are some grafting variations,
Not mine, all purchased
These Asian grafts could have been done by the same person
The stock is Echinopsis, I have some cutting I'm growing so I can ID later
Gymnocalycium spegazzinii unguispinum Pelecyphora aselliformis Nate gave me this, he said it was of his first grafts
