Pot sterilization method?

Post by CactusLover »

What are some methods to sterilize pots (clay and plastic) before planting seeds?
Thanks everybody in advance.

I microwave soil and soak plastic pots and tools in bleach water before using.
I dont use clay pots for seedlings because they dry out quickly and they would take up to much space.
Forget the dog...Beware of the plants!!!

Star san

If you go to a homebrew supply place, there is a product called 'star-san' that is used to sanitize containers for fermenting stuff. It leaves a film of soapy phosphoric acid that kills all bugs and leaves the surface toxic to microbes. Once it's fully reacted, it becomes fertilizer.

Really? I home brew as well and have star san on hand and always wondered. What do you do? - soak the soil with it and just wait til it dries and then use tap? Normal sterilization amounts (star san to h20)?

Thanks everybody for their input. I think I like hydrogen peroxide better than bleach.
