How many new plants have your acquired this year?

Post by GermanStar »

How many new plants have your acquired this year through some means other than propagation? I feel I'm at a disadvantage in regard to you indoor gardeners, yet I'm sitting squarely on 60 at the moment, all planted outdoors as ornamentals. Most are succulents of one sort or another. The bad news is that I may never have this opportunity again.

disadvantage with 60? I think like 4-6 new ones for me this year. I will be starting more seeds in December but that's not the same I guess.

Since I grow 99% of all my plants from seed my number will be low

If your plants didn't produce the seeds, then they count! :D

I dont really keep track but I bought at least 50 different species of seed alone this year and off the top of my head bought roughly 10 or 15 new species of plants at least.
When I started growing from seed three years ago my plant buying/trading spree's took a big hit.

Just curious, do you have any cacti in your yard as ornamentals, which you started from seed, or will that take a while yet?

I did the lower number because I really focused on seedlings. I am forcing myself to go from seedlings so I don't run out of room any faster than I am.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

Yes, I have planted 8 different species, probably around twenty plants in total, in the ground. Most are doing ok but growing much slower than their pampered siblings.

At what point do I count seedlings? When transfered to the main GH? When flowered? When awarded a privilege of individual pot? And should I count each or just a position in my list? :)

Count anything you didn't propagate yourself. For example, I have Agave offsets that I wouldn't count.

I guess you will need to put an over 100 option in the poll.

That has to be really interesting to watch, noting the differences. I mean, even planted in your yard is pampered compared to untended in the wild, right? Around here, we have all manner of Cylindropuntia and Ferocactus growing everywhere like weeds. For my part, I have never seen a Ferocactus in the wild smaller than a softball. Yet, I assume they must exist. :?

I did add 100+ as the final option. It didn't show for some reason. Perhaps an esteemed administrator/moderator can fix it?
