How many new plants have your acquired this year?
How many new plants have your acquired this year through some means other than propagation? I feel I'm at a disadvantage in regard to you indoor gardeners, yet I'm sitting squarely on 60 at the moment, all planted outdoors as ornamentals. Most are succulents of one sort or another. The bad news is that I may never have this opportunity again.

I dont really keep track but I bought at least 50 different species of seed alone this year and off the top of my head bought roughly 10 or 15 new species of plants at least.
When I started growing from seed three years ago my plant buying/trading spree's took a big hit.

Just curious, do you have any cacti in your yard as ornamentals, which you started from seed, or will that take a while yet?

Yes, I have planted 8 different species, probably around twenty plants in total, in the ground. Most are doing ok but growing much slower than their pampered siblings.GermanStar wrote:Just curious, do you have any cacti in your yard as ornamentals, which you started from seed, or will that take a while yet?

Count anything you didn't propagate yourself. For example, I have Agave offsets that I wouldn't count.

That has to be really interesting to watch, noting the differences. I mean, even planted in your yard is pampered compared to untended in the wild, right? Around here, we have all manner of Cylindropuntia and Ferocactus growing everywhere like weeds. For my part, I have never seen a Ferocactus in the wild smaller than a softball. Yet, I assume they must exist.Tony wrote:Yes, I have planted 8 different species, probably around twenty plants in total, in the ground.
