Check out SEINet, the Southwest Environmental Information Network.
http://swbiodiversity.org/seinet/index.php
You can enter the scientific name of any cactus from the region and get a list of all known herbarium specimens and where they were originally collected. Rare taxa have location information blocked, but you can still get some very interesting information.
You can also browse species lists by locality, identification keys and more. It looks like it's restricted to Arizona and New mexico at the moment, but it's still a huge amount of info.
