Question

Post by dustin0352 »

This might be a dumb question, but I am told the only dumb question is a question not asked. So here goes... If I grow 2 seperate cacti from seed from the same batch of seed will they be able to pollinate each other, or since they are brother and sister will this not work.

Normally that will work OK. Some species you only need two flowers on the same plant to make a good pollination.

No, and i case of nearly all cacti species, all plants are both brothers and sisters at the same time :)

cool thats what I was wondering. Thought there would be some kind of reduction in viability of the seed or the babies would be mutants lol. thanks guys for the info!

Its possible to inbreed if you keep doing it for long enough. Cultivated cacti have a very small genetic range compared to what there is out there, another reason why it can be fun to try new habitat seed.
