Seedling photos?
are they a good idea, or just a waste of time?

Especially juvenile forms of species that look significantly different from plants with mature spination. So, yes, sometime down the road I think an extra picture of, for example, a 1 year old Echinomastus erectocentrus or Ferocactus emoryi (actually, maybe every single Ferocactus!) would be very helpful.

Well....I think it is unlikely that they will be useful for ID in most cases as they are so similar to each other. However, they would be useful for someone wanting to study the life-cycle of a particular cactus plant. I always give school kids permission to use images from the site to use in their science reports. (I don't think the actually need to get permission for something like that, but some ask anyway.)
A second good use of the seedling pics is to show what a healthy seedling ought to look like for those with potential problems.
So I think they are useful, if maybe less of a priority...
