Pachypodium Lamerei

Hello.
New here.
Have a large Lamerei in my yard, been in since about 2000. It has 4 large trunks and many, many branches. Over the last few years one of the trunks branches have been very reluctant to leaf or flower. This year I noticed that the bark on the trunk is peeling just above the soil line. Have been unable to pin point a specific cause. Has anyone ever had this issue? I would love any info or experience you might have.
I live in Mission Viejo, California (southern Orange County).
