Too young to ID?

Post by CactiScot »

Hi,
Have trawled the guide looking for these guys. Not sure it's possible to get an ID on these as they are all young and small plants.
Thanks for looking

How on earth does one find a mammillaria schumannii in unlabelled wholesale cacti? ](*,) ](*,)

I bought that as one of a trio of plants in a high street shop. They came in plain plastic packaging and were marketed as 'Cacti.' Thank you for your help :)

Occasionally rarer plants do turn up in garden centres and stores when the growers who supply them just clear off the odds and ends left on their benches in order to start fresh for new batches of plants. They have already made their money back from the ones they sold at higher prices, just like discounting books to get rid of the remaining few at the end of the print run. It's just luck you finding them though.

I once got a 5 inch tall unlabelled Buiningia aurea at a garden centre. Probably the shortest pseudocephalium bearing cactus there is and I believe it was just starting a pseudocephalium at that size. unfortunately I lost it in a bad winter years ago.

Thank you for that insight. So far I have just bought plants that I like the look of and that are different. Now I'm looking into naming them, I'll keep an eye out for rarer plants. :)

I think I have identified Number 6, it is surely Mammillaria coahuilensis.

Could number 3 be a Micranthocereus estevesii?

1, 4 are some Echinocereus, 2 - an Echinopsis and #3 - maybe Haageocereus. Better IDs -- after seeing some flowers on mature plants.
