What kind of aloe?

Post by cosmotoad »

I picked up this unlabeled plant today, I'm assuming it's an aloe but it could be something else for all I know. I looked around a bit but there are so many types of aloe that it's hard to make a guess. Maybe it's too small to tell at this point, since I noticed a lot of them look way different when they're older. Thanks!

I agree, Aloe aculeata looks a good possibility.

OK, thanks to both of you. I was thinking aloe marlothii seemed close but aculeata looks like a better match.

From the llifle page on Aloe aculeata.
http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCC ... e_aculeata
It is easily identified from other similiar species with conspicuous sharp spines on the leaves in that it is the only known aloe whose spines spring from tuberculate white base bumps.
My first thought was martholii, but I also thought peglarae - which seems to contradict the above with white spine bases.
