Grafted Ariocarpus turned woody

I have an issue seems occur when I graft Ariocarpus on Hilocereus, I grafted seedlings and the graft succeed then winter came and all goes into dormant, now some seedlings looks woody nearly full woody, even the top of stock near graft joint turned woody, I still can see new growt, and some of them cracked, any idea about the reason?

But the scion itself looks woody its nearly totally woody.

I think scions may be damaged by dust-mites.

Or it could be from the rapid expanding of those influenced by strong rootstock? Haven't heard about dust-mites attacking cacti.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

I don't think dust mites. Most likely spider mites, tiny little red monsters that do a surprising amount of damage.
Spray with a sulphur based bug spray (regular bug spray is ineffective against mites) that should clear it up but remember to spray twice giving a week between sprays due to the reproductive cycle of mites.
