That´s just crazy...Is it the angle or is the flower almost as broad as the plant is high?

That's partly the angle, but the flower is about the same height as the entire plant and wider. It would be as wide as the plant is tall if it opened out more.

E. fendleri also has massive flowers, easily bigger than the rather squat body.

Echinocereus pentalophus, though probably the most uninteresting plant stems of any Echinocereus, have probably has the largest flowers.

Very nice flowers. After seeing this post I may have bought a flowering size echinocereus dasyacanthus ;) thanks for showing me that one!
