Trichocereus ...?

Post by widea »

Hi,

Both cacti should be Echinopsis/Trichocereus Pachanoi but I have my doubts about the one on the right. That one looks more like Echninopsis/Trichocereus Peruvianus, correct?

Thanks!

The one on the right looks like a myrtillocactus geometrizans or maybe some kind of stenocereus.

I understand your suggestion of Myrtillocactus geometrizansis regarding the shape but the color does not match, not blue/green and the spines are not dark/black.
I still suspect it to be Trichocereus, maybe I'll have to wait until it has grown bigger to see if and how it branches.

The top down view makes me think trichocereus bridgesii or maybe even peruviana but something about it does not look right for either. It could even be a hybrid.

The spines do not seem long enough for bridgii. Maybe peruvianus or as you suggest, a hybrid.

I think the one on the right is Trichocereus bridgesii. The spines probably aren't long enough because of the amount of light it receives.

In one week I will put it outside so it gets more light. I'll see if the spines grow longer then.
For now it receives a temporary label 'bridgii'. Thanks!

Looks very similar to my young T. bridgesii.

If it is older and bigger (and I can keep it alive/growing in this Dutch weather) I will post another photo.

For what it is worth, here is a Trichocereus peruvianus growing in my front yard. Sorry for the picture quality, it is a snapshot taken with an old camera. The plant had attained a height of approx ten feet (3 meters) but we had to cut it back to comply with our Homeowners Association plant height rules:

Out of interest how old is that one James? I got a peruvianus and would like to know quick they grow.

Thanks for that nona gives me an idea what to expect. I think I will give it a bigger pot and a richer soil too. I think they do grow better with more organic soil.
