Hey guys
Here's a recent purchase from a cactus show vendor (Bill Munkacsy, Planta Seca). Bill calls this plant Sulcorebutia aff. krainziana. The "aff." part means, if memory serves, affinis, and means the plant seems related to.
Bill said that both he and Elton Roberts refer to this plant this way. Do you folks have thoughts about the plant? Sorry I don't have a better flower photo.

I'll grow it as long as it doesn't have glochids. Gaudy flowers a plus.

Sulcorebutia aff. krainziana is a meaningless combination ))

Rebutia krainziana as i know it is a spineless plant, or they are extremely short it appears spineless with bright red/orange flowers. I don't see any thing in common with your plant. I'm certainly no Rebutia/Sulco expert, but it's more affinis to canigueralii than krainziana to me.
Re: Sulcorebutia aff. krainziana?
A search of the Web brings up no Sulcorebutia krainziana, so evidently a name somebody just dreamed up. Maybe originally Sulcorebutia sp. Krainz?

Hmm. Well, instead of doing forensics on the name stuck on my label, what do you think is a likely identity for the plant?

Hey Guys,
I'm still wondering about this mystery plant. It's scorchingly hot today, and it decided it is a good day to flower. Sorry about the shadow on the plant in the first photo, it's so bright, I couldn't see my phone screen clearly! The second photo was taken in more diffused light.
You might see "canigueralii" on the tag---that's based upon previous discussions of this plant here!

I'd say it fits R. steinbachii better. Cactus Art describes S. canigueralii's central spines: "None or 1 to 2 ± distant and erect, whitish with darker base", which isn't like this one at all. Rebutia steinbachii is highly variable, I think this one falls well within its range.
