Seedling grafting... how old ?

Post by charlpic »

How many months or days old are your seedlings when you graft them ? How old were your youngests and what age do you consider most successful ?

I graft Astrophytum and Ariocarpus seedlings when they are around 40 days old.
I think 40 days old shows highest grafting success ratio with my grafting method.

I grafted Ariocarpus kotschubeyanus seedlings, 2 days
after germination for a grafting competition.
One of the grafted seedlings was in flower 3 months after germination.

Thanks for the reply,

I don't know why but all my attempts at seedling grafting failed. Seedlings turn pale/brown and then into jelly. Last time, I started to loose seedlings dramatically after 30 days so I tried to graft them but their countdown to death was probably already begun.

By the way, is your grafting method different than the one proposed in the cactiguide article ?

I use several grafting stocks for seedling grafting.
In the case of pereskiopsis, my method is very similar to cactusguide article.

I normally use Harrisia jusbertii as seedling grafting stock. The grafting method is different from pereskiopsis.
