My new kleiniae looked a bit like that,,,,,,,,,,till a slug made the 10 inch or so climb up and made short work of the new growth. It has started again though (and slugs baited).

Hadn't seen a slug all year in the garden til this evening. Pulled one off a whipplei (different than the above) and humifusa. Good thing the growth on most plants is nearly full size already. First beer trap going out tonight

So glad I don't have to worry about slugs!

I hate those suckers. They used to attack my Mom's Hostas. They would go and eat the buds right off the flowers stalks. Pissed me off when they almost killed the $40 variegated kind I bought my Mom.

Good luck. Beer traps worked the best outta all the ideas I could come up with.

No way June will be that bad again, what was it 5 sunny days...This incredible Spring is just reward for all the crap we put up with in summer '08 and '09.
JUNE, thus far...Not quite as bad as '09 but still mostly crap. Frustrating. :x

Yup, the weather has fallen apart just in time for June, the standard script the last three years. Indoor plants have buds galore which want to go right now but can't do much. There's three outdoor plants left with buds but at least they seem to handle waiting better than the ones in pots.

After the awesome spring, we had everything a good month and a half ahead of schedule. So, where last year it was buds waiting for a month, this year most plants have near fully developed flowers that are now just...sitting. No heat, no sun.

Same pattern too, forecast inevitably says "today is crap, tomorrow is mixed, but the day after will be sunny and dry". That "day after"...yea, it never comes.

We've got a similar situation here, but May was a little too dry for comfort so I'm really glad that we're getting the relief. We'd have been in real trouble if we didn't get this rain in June.

This is one bonus with a greenhouse. It is warm and dry in there even on cloudy, rainy days.

Despite the clouds and heavy rains today I noticed that Claude flowered anyway. I'm calling this my first Opuntia flower EVER (O. humifusa is too easy to count). I just hope the other buds wait for a sunny day.

It's "Claude Arno" an old Barr hybrid (polyacantha/fragilis). The flower is pink with what look's like a deeper pink/magenta at the base but I couldn't see to well inside it today.

Damp, cool, 64F, heavy clouds, 9:30 am. Imagine what this flower would do with 80's and full sun

Last update of the year

I thought this was O. humifusa but I might have to reconsider macrorhiza after it put out this large frilled flower with a fiery orange in the center

Sedum album. I forget the cultivar name but the white flowers are nice and the tiny bee's love them.
