One of my friends recently went to Rome for a J-term class and thought I'd enjoy this picture of some lovely Opuntia growing near an ancient aqueduct outside of Rome. She was right. So I thought you guys might enjoy seeing some cacti having a Roman holiday! Too bad I'm sure they're a horrible invasive. She did say they were at least spineless!

Yeah, I'll bet most tourists don't realize they don't belong there. Probably O. ficus-indica.

It would have been fun to see how the Romans would have incorporated the cactus into their architecture had it grown there. I guess we see some of that in the structures built in Mexico by native peoples there.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti
