C. cornifera, or maybe C. pallida.

Re: Large wooded opuntia broke off. Can I get it to root?

It looks like the top half of the older pad is pretty green. That's where you'll have the most success in rooting. Actually, you could just lay the pad flat on top of soil, as you have it shown in the first photo, and it should send out roots from several of the areoles.

Re: How to see new posts without seeing ID requests

I see where you're coming from, but this seems worse to me than clicking on the "New posts" button. Right now, I see 26 new posts from the link you posted and 17 new threads from the new post button. I don't want to scroll through all of the multiple new posts in the same thread, I just wa...

Re: Cactus in California

Someone gave this to me as a cutting, calling it a night blooming Cereus--a very generic common name. Anyway, I always felt it was a type of Harrisia, and have had friends help me ID it as H. pomanensis. I think the two plants are conspecific.

Re: Cactus in California

It's hard for me to photograph this plant because of the lighting situation, its general setting, and growth habit, but here's a composite showing the new growth at the tip and the lower, older growth with smaller spines and a flower bud. Unfortunately the bud fell off a couple days ago. My plant ha...

Awesome! You don't see much habitat pix from that far north. Thanks for sharing it.

Re: why do online seller list sold out cactus

I get it. Most of the best sellers are smaller family businesses. Yet, if you have the time to put"SOLD OUT" across the picture, why not just remove the Item. Then when its back in stock put it back in instead of removing "SOLD OUT" . Maybe the seller wants people to know that t...

^^^^I'm in this camp, aka Harrisia pomanensis. My plants look a bit different than those shown on the CactiGuide Species Description page. I guess habitat plants look different than those in cultivation.

Help ID this Agave

I thought maybe A. parviflora or toumeyana at first, but my plant doesn't have the filaments on the leaves, which is what I notice on all the photos I've seen of those species. Thanks for looking.

Re: What kind of cactus is this?

It's a young seedling, so it will be very difficult to identify the species. It could probably be any number of things. It kind of looks like Ferocactus to me.

Peniocereus fosterianus X Sowing--No Success

Does anyone here have experience growing any tropical Peniocereus species from seeds? I was able to get fruit with seeds by crossing P. fosterianus and P. rosei both ways. The attached picture is P. rosei x fosterianus on the left, and P. fosterianus x rosei on the right. A fellow at the local C&...

The only way this plant flowered for me after many years was cutting the plant back to the tuber.

Re: Peniocereus greggii rot/surgery

I assume we are looking at the bottom of the tuber in those photos. You can cut off nearly all of the root and it will still put forth new stem growth, so long as the very top central portion of the tuber is not damaged. Since you've had a problem with rot, I would wait a minimum of two weeks to rep...
