Re: Turbinicarpus talk.
Thank you for elaborating on the topic. It helps to know why genera/species are being renamed/recategorized. I'll bookmark the website you mentioned. Seems interesting.

Re: Decoster Cactussen, Veurne, Belgium
Awesome!! Is in the middle of R0000487.jpg Gymnocalycium spegazzini? Correct. I don't know how old it is. I've only seen younger specimens. I bought a small one at ELK 2023, but gave it away because I promised a plant to a colleague. I noticed yesterday I sowed G. cardenasianum previous spring, whi...

Re: Decoster Cactussen, Veurne, Belgium
You're reffering to R0000492.jpg? That is indeed E. schoenlandii. I have a specimen which I got from a veteran grower here in Antwerp. Not nearly as impressive as the one in the photo. They're quite slow growing, but it's nice to watch the new growth turn into these woody spikes.

Re: What are you sowing?
I just read a short scientific journal on germinating Turbinicarpus and apparently T. lophophoroides and pseudopectinatus have a better germination rate when the seeds are +1 year old. All other Turbinicarpus do well when the seeds are fresh. I sowed T. pseudopectinatus and T. lophophoroides (fresh...

Re: What are you sowing?
Same here. I buy small batches of seeds (usually 30 seeds/species, or less if the seed is very expensive). If seed is fresh and germinates well (which often isn't the case) out of 30 seeds I will manage to grow up to 5 "premium" specimens of which I keep 2-3 for collection. The rest is us...

Decoster Cactussen, Veurne, Belgium
Here are some pictures I took of the private collection of Miel Decoster (Decoster Cactussen, Veurne, Belgium). I took these last summer. Veurne is located in West-Flanders, Belgium close to De Panne. Observing his greenhouse, I imagine it was quite the enterprise at a certain point. At the moment h...

Re: Turbinicarpus talk.
I try to follow a lot of these Zoom talks and think (besides this) BCSS does a great job. Were these also held before the pandemic? Regarding the lecture of Rob Stevenson, I must say it's confusing. According to Llifle, Turbinicarpus pseudomacrochele is the accepted scientific name, but the Internat...

Re: Hot bath against root mealybugs
If the cactus is hibernating, a systemic isn't as effective as it could be. Where are you located? Is your cactus in hibernation or is actively growing? What species is the cactus? If it is (severely) weakened by a mealybug infestation, I'm not sure the hot bath method is a good idea. I would unpot ...

Re: Purple and orange spots on ferocactus
I recently read on the BCSS forum someone submerged a Lithops with root mealies in methylated spirits. I have done it as well on some Pterocacti recently without any side effects. I don’t know a more specific term for it. It’s also sold as fuel for ‘stoves’. Here, it also has a blue tint to it. It c...

Re: Lots of orange lumps and bumps on my cacti
Thank you so much for your reply and info! I looked at the link about edema and for me that is better news than a fungal infection. I will be working to correct the environmental factors and be extra cautious about watering them and hopefully they will improve! Thanks again!! You're welcome. If you...
