Re: Do mirrors increase the light strength
I would think that if you are talking about directing sunlight into your structure, you would have to consider things like time of year, angle of the sun, how to aim the reflective surface, how much reflective surface you would need, and what the reflective surface would consist of. Just to name a f...

No, I splurged and bought one and called it a late Christmas present. No more plants for me until I replenish the severely depleted "plant budget"....

Re: How are you and your plants doing up north and east?
It would be nice to enjoy the weather here in Central Florida, but I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. So far this year the jet stream has not dipped this far south for any extended periods. It has been so warm on some days that there has been one national "Hate Florida" day. Cold d...

Re: growing stones
Could be a monstrose form of G. paraguayense or another similar plant. In that case, it would have some different characteristics than pictures you might see on line of "normal" plants... like more "leaves" in the rosettes and flat stems. It is a very cool plant, whatever it is.

Re: Should we keep up the monthly photo Contests?
Theme of the Month sould be completely different than Cactus of the Month...(which, if it is there, I have not seen lately; how have I missed it?) To me the theme would be more like pictures of "cacti in the garden" while cactus of the month should (?) be a more in-depth description of one...

Re: Right type of compost
Many, if not all, cacti do not want richly organic soil. While compost is great for your vegetable garden, it could eventually kill your cacti. Start here: http://cactiguide.com/article/?article=article8.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Re: will this greenhouse work?
I bought a similar greenhouse years ago http://cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=14540" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. It woeked fine for a year or two, but the downsides were tthat I filled it up too soon, the sun turned it brittle (and useless) in a couple of ...

Re: The Nancy cactus
There is another one you should look for, not the same as yours, but with a similar 'lethality' (if that's not a word, it should be!)... Echinocactus texenis --- it is called the "Horse Crippler" cactus.

Re: Euphorbia for ID.
So many euphorbias, so little time. Looks like a different plant than E. aeruginosa, to me. But, as much as I like euphorbia, giving them a name is not easy. So, if it were me, and I needed a name, I'd just go with E. lumpy.

Re: Winter watering advice for new cacti -- thoughts, anyone
-- no watering until the day/night temps are consistent with a nice, warm start to the growing season. If the current weather pattern in my area holds up, maybe next month? Shouldn't try my patience so much, huh? [-X The full moon in March is supposed to be when danger of frost is past in this area...
