Re: Is this agave parryi?

No. It is not agave at all. Maybe a sedum?

Re: Adenium Pruning

I am glad to know I may get a caudex on the cuttings. I had read elsewhere that it would not happen.

Re: Anyone Bought from SMG Succulents?

I have bought plants from them. They were (are) good healthy plants. No complaints.

Re: Adenium Pruning

Stick the top in some soil too, you may end up with another plant. (No caudex, but flowers!)

Re: Baja Habitat cactus photos january 2014, highlights

Next step is exploring the use of a polarizer for times when glare and reflections are a problem. (If you need sunglasses, your camera might too!) Depending on the kind you get, polarizers can be quite inexpensive. I am using a very inexpensive Tiffen "circular polarizer", but you can get ...

Re: Sesuvium portulacastrum

Depending on which beach, you may want to rethink harvesting dune plants for two reasons, the dunes need the plants to hold them together so many species are illegal to remove, and you could have a hard time putting enough salt in the soil mix you would have to use! :)

Re: Help IDing this Succulent I bought at Lowes.

Kalanchoe. Don't know which one. It looks like the "Mother of Thousands" variety that produces plantlets on the leaf margin and proliferates at an amazing rate. It will like lots of light.

Is it just me, or are you getting more detail in the Canon shots? All of the shots are great, as ever.

Re: Why would you ever acquire a mature plant?

Anyone out there who doesn't want their mature plants, or needs to make room for cultivating seed, can send the old guys to me. As I said before, I have rotten luck starting plants from seeds, and as an old person myself, I'd be happy to provide a cactus rest home for the aged...

Re: Messaging

PMs stay in your out box for a while, perhaps until the recipient logs on. I think when the message is in your "sent" box, it has been delivered. That's how you know if the recipient can open your message. But, I don't know if it is an indication that the messages has actually been read. A...

Re: Adenium Pruning

I sure hope this advice works. I just chopped the tops off of a couple of very "leggy" plants -- an A. somalanse crispum hybrid and an A. aribicum. I believe the somalanse is supposed to be a tall and thin plant, but I'm hoping for at least two tall and thin trunks! EDIT- I got confused, I...

Love it! I just got one a few months ago, no sign of blooms, but maybe I'll get lucky.

Re: What water do you use to water your cacti?

Rain water. (I add some fertilizer to make a very diluted solution.) Since it's Florida, I rarely run out, but plain old tap water if it does, or if my pump quits working.

Re: Why would you ever acquire a mature plant?

I kill rather than germinate seeds, so that doesn't work for me. I primarily like to buy young plants though, it is like adopting children. On the other hand, I wouldn't (and haven't) turn down a mature plant, especially one with "history". It depends on the plant, the source, and my obses...
