I just got hooked on cactus and it should have been Swamp Lilies! Florida is definately getting drenched, we have gotten over 3 inches since yesterday and I'm afraid all my plants are going to turn into mush. Boy do I ever miss the sunshine.

At least the forest fires should be drenched...

This is a picture of a "Prickly Pear" growing at Turtle Mounds National Seashore on the Florida East Coast. I've always wondered what the "correct" name is.Image

Thanks. I can live without knowing the exact nomencalture, it is nice to verify that it is a Cereus. As a matter of fact, I was thinking of calling it "Cereusly pretty plant"...

Thanks. I have no doubt that it is a night blooming cereus of some kind, but this one's flowers have red outside petals and the spines are spaced further apart than the Cereus peruvianus.

Which variety is this?

These are pictures of three cacti. The tallest is about 4 feet tall and maybe 5 inches in diameter. The blossoms are 8-9 inches in diameter, open at night, last one night only, and have little or no odor. There are more buds yet to open. Although I am sure this is a fairly common cactus in this area...
