Re: Astrophytum help needed

A qiuck update on the Astros; as said above, I did repot all 9 of them. All in pure Lechuza-Pon. They all survived the winter but one rotted not long after the first watering in spring and another one got mushy after the second watering. The remaining sevem is all alive so far and two of them have f...

Re: Sansevieria new growth

Thanks a lot BryanT 🙂 No, I don’t mind the ‘new’ form on the new leaves, I was just wondering why they looked that way.

Re: RESCUED DUMPSTER MAMMILARIA SPINOSSISIMA

Welcome Susan 🙂 I love your rescue story. There is something special with plants you rescue and bring back to life, so to speak. What to do with the cactus..why do anything at all? Unless you want your plants to be perfect looking. It looks happy in the pic and I guess it don’t look worse today than...

Sansevieria new growth

I bought this little Sansevieria last year .( possible Fernwood? ) Tallest leaves about 15 cm high . Since it was potted in a small pot( 5 cm) I repotted it in a larger pot. I noticed that it looked to be several single leaf cuttings placed together in a pot. This year it has produced new growth but...

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?

I will give you an example why I think only 3-4 specimens is inadequate 🙂 About a year ago I stripped an Echinopsis sp ( probably oxygona) for all its pups. I kept seven of these and potted them in same size pots and in the same mix. I will only include six of these in this ‘test’ as one of the pups...

Thanks a lot Teo! 🙂 It certainly looks like it’s the sort. I just repotted it , it originally came in a 5 cm pot and was very dry, the leaves was even thinner when I found it, almost papery.

Rescue plant ; Aloe?

Found this messy growing plant binned in a garden center. All it needed was water and it perked up. Could it be an Aloe cultivar of some sort? The pot is 9 cm in diameter.

Re: Mrs.Green windowsills-growing cacti against the odds (links on page 9)

I only have two Hoyas ; the kerrii and a carnosa. Both seems to thrive with full sun exposure but I am pretty sure ‘full sun’ here and were you live e.g. is very different 🙂 Hoya carnosa is one of the most common Hoya here. Nice pinkish flowers, with lots of sweet nectar dripping from the flowers. ...

Re: Mrs.Green windowsills-growing cacti against the odds (links on page 9)

I think you had problem to keep A. myriostigma well last season but it seems they are all right now. Thank you Hanazono 🙂 I am still very much trying out whats ‘right or wrong as I am new to growing Astrophytums. I had nine but are down to seven now . But I am happy to see flowers and buds on some ...

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?

Select cactus species that are easily available and get 3 or 4 individuals of the same species. Pot them up with 3 or 4 different mixes, then see which test individual does best over time. The idea here is that you can get an apples-to-apples comparison. If you have enough growing space to test a f...

Re: Mrs.Green windowsills-growing cacti against the odds (links on page 9)

The hoya in the 1st photo seems to be happy! :D Is that Hoya kerrii? Hi Bryan 🙂 Yes it is Hoya kerrii. This plant has an interesting story. Many years ago my mother was gifted a single leaf in a pot. This leaf stod still for several years without anything happenening. Suddenly it sprouted new growt...

..and the first flower on the Selenicereus has opened up 😀 Unfortunately this is the best wiev I can get of the bloom, since the window is bigh up and not easy accessible. This is the first Selenicereus flower I have seen IRL and I must say it’s pretty impressive, both it’s beauty and size. I got th...
