Re: Locality Info for OST 84273 (Corryocactus squarrosus)
I don't mean to go off topic, but I too also have some questionable locality info. I obtained a Haagespostoa albisetatus CF 763 from the Huntington Botanical Gardens in 2012. The label says the seeds were collected in Eulalia, Peru at an elevation of 1000 m. However, CF 763 doesn't show up on any of...

Re: A couple new plants from HP
Wow! Yours has grown a lot, and so as mine, pictured below.
I guess it's safe to call it Consolea falcata

Re: Trichocereus ...?
I think the one on the right is Trichocereus bridgesii. The spines probably aren't long enough because of the amount of light it receives.

Re: New Big Box Store Plants- need ID
Ok, I am certain about the ID for the top right and bottom left, but am clueless about the one on the bottom right. It doesn't look much like the pictures of P. herteri I found, and I don't see anything like it in the Cactus Collection plant library. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I ca...

New Big Box Store Plants- need ID
I came home with a few new plants from a local Big Box Store and would like to confirm the ID of the plants:
From left to right, top to bottom:
Polaskia chende
Opuntia decumbens
Pachycereus hollianus cristata
Parodia herteri

Re: ID Help
There seems to be some confusion about this plant. The major grower that supplies Lowe's calls it Opuntia "snow." According to another discussion, it could be a neonatal sport of Opuntia orbiculata or some other Opuntia. In other words, it's an immature form that may never flower or become...

Re: A couple new plants from HP
I recently found the same plant, erroneously labeled as Opuntia monacantha 'Joseph's Coat' at a local Home Depot the other day. It seems like Altman released a few of these recently. IMG_4597.JPG I'm starting to lean towards Consolea falcata for the ID because the elongated shape of the pads is a ch...

Re: Help please to complete my cacti IDs
I think so too!I think gymnocalcium mihanovicii
Ditto!I think echinocactus grusonii in 5 inch pot at about 8 UKP $12
I agree (The second Gymnocalycium though.)your Gymnocalycium --> baldianum, esp. if having red flowers
C. jamacaru is a possibility for the Cereus.

Re: A few more without IDs please help
The first one looks like a Pilosocereus, probably P. calcisaxicolus although P. gounellei is another possibility.
The next looks like Pilosocereus leucocephalus
The third looks like a Melocactus or Coleocephalocereus
The last is a Coryphantha, but I'm not sure which one.

Re: A couple new plants from HP
Yes these are Altman plants how could you tell? was it the carrying strap on the pots? I didn't even notice the company name till i saw your post and had to go check the pot out to see if it was. You're right on! It's the strap and black plastic pots. The glued on flowers were also clues. ;) Altman...

Re: A couple new plants from HP
Looks like these plants were grown by Altman, a major wholesaler that supplies the big box stores. The first one could be Consolea falcata , as it's listed in their plant library. Yours does kinda resemble the plant on Daves Garden: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/98655/ However, it could also b...

Re: Working at the Greenhouses
Thanks for sharing Colton! Being able to care for succulents is a nice job to have as a college student. It makes me wish the university I am at has a plant conservatory, at least one for C & S. I noticed that some of the tags are from the Huntington. Are those plants yours, or were they purchas...

We won't know for sure without a flower, but I do suspect your plant could be Trichocereus camarguensis.

I really don't think Pedro is an O. ficus-indica. He (it) looks more like Consolea rubescens

Re: Yellow Spots forming on Myrtillocacti
How many degrees do you have now? Our daily highs have been anywhere between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit while our nightly lows have been below freezing on a clear night to about 45 degrees Fahrenheit when it's cloudy or raining. The yellow spots are starting to harden, so I guess that's a sign th...
