Re: The Super Glue Method is easier than any other...

It's been way over six months for the check in (last post Oct 2022) But it would of been useless at 6 months, I needed 10 months to show anything worth looking at Some of the good stuff Copiapoa haseltonia and cinerea IMG_1326.JPG Ariocarpus variegated and others IMG_1314.JPG Neowerdermannia vorwerk...

Re: MrXeric's Grafts

I tried to root cuttings, and they didn't make it
I have seeds galore, so I will keep trying until I get it right

Re: MrXeric's Grafts

I regrafted my D. horstii on to larger stock after a year or 2

Never was able to get one to stay alive on it's own roots from my seeds
I did have one that I bought from Jurgen Menzel on it's own roots, it lived for many years, until I repotted it the wrong time of year

Re: MrXeric's Grafts

Great stuff Please show the progress of some of the other grafts that you posted earlier I rarely post on my failures, but it's good to share things that go wrong, because it's a common occurrence I had the same disappointing results with Yavia never getting a plant to live after rooting Can't belie...

Re: Issue greenhouse shading

I have both black and white shade cloth in my green houses I think I can offer an explanation The Black shade cloth has larger holes in it, that allow some direct light through that may cook your plants The white cloth has smaller holes, and it sometimes feels that a 50% white shade seems more shade...

Re: Handy Gizmos

a loop of tape on the seed stem of these Sarcocaulon keeps them from flying off and drilling themselves into hiding
If you just touch them when they are ripe they go flying

Re: Northern U.S. Winter Melocactus care

I use Fox Farm "Happy Frog", which is similar to the "Ocean Harvest", which I used for a while but switched to the frog because it has less floaty stuff I use about 20-40% soil with about 60-70% pumice and 10% course sand (if I have any) I dries out fast when mixed with pumice, s...

Attracting flies using a Stapeliad as bait
I also used a paint brush to cross them, so if I do get seeds, I won't be able to know if I did it or the flies
I haven't seen a fly on the plants of interest yet

Re: Handy Gizmos

I go through 60-100 gallons each watering during most of the year So cans and sprayers are out I don't like watering cans because the spout pours the water out in a strong stream that disturbs the soil too much Of course I use a spray bottle for seedlings, until they are big enough for the water to ...

Re: C and D's Succulents

Mine are quite compact I bought one from Woody in 1998 that was imported "so to speak" I had a huge root/stem stock, it hasn't grown much bigger since then, but grows short stem sections every year They grow nice tuberous roots from cuttings after a couple years, which we sell But I will h...
