I can buy small bags of kitty litter and experiment and what isn't any good can be used for my actual kitties. I'll just have to be sure I pot up any plants in it where they can't see me or they might start to get ideas... ;)

Check Home Depot or Lowes outdoor garden center's pond supplies, $4.99 for a 10# bag. If Kitty litter is essentially the same thing that's like $6 for a 40# bag! :D

Thanks for the info on the oyster shell Iann.
So I need to have a little peat in it to get the oyster shell nutrients released? Not just clay, grit and limestone? Since my fertilizer (Dynagrow Bloom 3-12-12) has Ca and all the micro-nutes already I may not even have to worry about it.

About 3 days under lights, we'll see about outdoors now that the temps have gotten good. I've settled onto using Shultz Aquatic Plant Soil which is nothing more than fired "Arcyllite" clay bits about 1-2mm in size. I add in some small gravel to add weight and then a top dressing of more gr...

Thanks! Could it be made neutral or slightly basic by adding crushed coral or crushed oyster shell? Do coral or oyster degrade in a pot?

I used pelletized limestone once and those plants all had to be repotted rather soon as the stuff basically dissolved and glued the media together. :(

Cherrystone Grit?

I found a 50# sack stuff at a farm store today called Cherrystone Grit. It's "Sharp insoluble quartzite gravel". It has a big chicken on the front of it and was sold in the Chicken Feed section but lists other uses like aerating planting mix on the back. Is anyone else using this as a grow...

Thanks for the shots Darryl! How big are those blooms - 1"? I dig Ceropegia flowers they're like miniature Nepenthes pitchers designed by Dr. Seuss and Albert Hoffman. If only we could get them blooms to 8" tall or so... :D I've got a bud or two on the C. armandii, does it generally bloom ...

I've sent them an email inquiring who they are, if I've ordered from them before (don't know the names) and if the plants are nursery grown, what form payment must take, etc. We'll see what the response is. It's not weird for people with import permits to do a bulk order with their pals on a forum. ...

Who are Mike and Dominique Cannon? mystery succulent email

I got the following email sent to me. Is this a fishing email or are they affiliated with this site or where did they get my email and know what sort of plants I'm into? Did anyone else get this? Prices have been deleted by me (some are decent and some are outrageous) and no contact address is liste...

HA yes, I understand the family is climbing vines!

I was just surprised how quickly it's climbing compared to the other. I built/setup some wire retainers to try and "train" it into a smaller or more compact shape, will the vine become woody after being held in position?

How fast is Ceropegia armandii supposed to grow?

I got this bumpy guy Ceropegia armandii from Mike & Maureen at African Plants about 2-3 weeks ago http://www.battlehelm.com/cacti/ceropegiaarmandii.jpg It's now almost a foot tall or more and appears to be growing by inches daily. Is this normal? I've only watered it once after potting it up, no...

Neat! I just picked up one of those on Wednesday, mine has hot pink leaves and lots of whiskers. It will be nice to have something bloom without a boring old white flower too!

My luck it'll be some rare "alba" flowered form, just because...
