Re: Cactus Album app
What would people's thoughts be on pre-populating the app with species names versus leaving the list empty? Note that I'm referring only to the names and not any related information. The Info screen for each cactus or succulent contains a Species field and a toggle button to switch between the commo...

Re: Lithops adventures
This morning I noticed a bunch of Lithops optica rubra had popped up at some point during the night. I hope they'll stick around this time!

Re: my collection so far....
That light box is interesting. Does it noticeably reduce etiolation? Quite a few of my older cacti have that elongated look near the top, since they're under fluorescent lights year-round.

Re: Lithops adventures
Interesting. I wonder if the Lithops optica rubra pair I noticed earlier in the week (that have since disappeared) had trouble rooting in that mix. My main concern was rotting, so I kept things coarse. It sounds like I need some finer organics near the surface? Well spotted re the "lithops vari...

Re: Cactus Album app
The National Weather Service data seems to be free and covers the US. Where it gets pricey is sourcing data for other countries. I'm not sure how easy the NWS data is to integrate, either. I imagine the free weather apps either use the aforementioned data, attach ads to their app, or have some other...

Re: Cactus Album app
I was thinking of adding a watering tab on the bottom, which would present a table of watering schedules. These schedules could be assigned to one or more plants. Each schedule item would consist of several fields: - Schedule name - Water every x hours/days/weeks/months/years - Type of watering? Spr...

Very nice! That Cleistocactus brookeae is especially interesting. Are those orange things flowers or fruit?

Cactus Album app
I've started working on an iOS app (Cactus Album) for keeping track of all my cacti and succulents. I wasn't able to find anything suitable on the App Store, so I figured I'd come up with an app myself. It's still early in development, but here's the first screenshot of the app so far: Cactus_Album_...

Re: Monadenium ritchei offsets
The offsets aren't doing so well now. One is rotting and the other one doesn't look so good. I guess watering them right after potting wasn't such a good idea after all!

Re: Andrew's cacti collection
Yeah, the seller reckons shipping in pots is less stress on the plants. They wrap the plant and pot in toilet paper, then wrap the lot in packing paper. The bundles are encased in packing peanuts. The arrangement seems to work very well, keeping the plants from moving and protecting the spines. I or...
