Watering by dipping or pouring?

Just wondering what people do as per watering and why. I grow in Napa grit, cherrystone grit and a tiny bit of coir, just to act as binder and keep it from pouring out the drain holes. I usually flood the top of the pot and let the water run out but last time I set the plants in a tub of water for a...

Look at those fatties! I have a few, they sure are slow and good about dropping the leaves that were on them when they arrive. Is the round one a Myrmecodia?

Thanks Rose, I was looking all over to find pics of a Huernia with spots and the petal margins outlined just like mine but hadn't found any. I had myself settled into H. praetestans but there was only one pic that matched that name to this bloom the others with that name had a light colored corolla....

Yes, slow and easy + coffee is a great afternoon but what's not so great is when you get gravel in the coffee. :(

I save my coffee for afterward now - water bottles have lids! :)

Nice colors on those plants!

Thanks Darryl! I've been wondering do the flowers spots being rounded or more dash like not make a large difference on identification?

Thanks Iann! I figured you'd probably know what these mystery mesembs were if anyone did. They're both potted in my all grit mix. I was thinking I'd be "safe" just watering the Gibbaeum when I see shriveling. First off though I was planning to let it go waterless for some time since there ...

Thanks Tobias, I thought this was tiny a pot of moss misplaced at the nursery until closer inspection! What are they like to grow? Are they fussy about watering like Aloinopsis? I have it potted in Napa Diatomaceous Earth, clay grit and quartzite grit there is also a small amount of coir to help bin...

Two mystery Mesembs & a Huernia in pear tree

I picked up two Mesembs at different nurseries neither of which had tags. This one has been overwatered a bit but I'd never seen whatever it is before so I figured perhaps I could rehab it. http://www.alienflora.com/gallery/mesembsp.jpg This one superficially resembles a miniature Titanopsis. http:/...

I would say anything prone to rot by being cold & wet should be brought in. Stuff like Trichocereus and Crassulas I just leave out.
But Mesembs or sensitive others who "can't" be wet and cold simultaneously I'd bring in. Aloinopsis are always mushy by morning in such circumstances.

Eulophia petersii - Succulent Orchid with Pic

Hey folks, I just got a Eulophia petersii an orchid which grows in the desert growing alongside Aloes and Euphorbias. Being a nut for the weird orchids I just had to get one of these which is sort of both types of plants. It's sort of like a cross of a short very thick corrugated cane Dendrobium wit...

I bought one too - they were marked down to $6.00 and there was a really nice one with many short arms, lots of leaves and a nearly 3" caudex. :D I whacked the bottom of the pot on the counter and popped out the soil mass with the patio of pebbles and all. Then separated the pebbles from the pe...

Thanks Toddo! That's a great looking plant! I hope I get some red blooms like that. The bent stem on my larger one is the same as the bent stem in the back of your shot so I guess it's ok, it's not soft just seemed to bend over in just the last week or so, we did have a really hot spell (hot as Vega...

Hey thanks man! That Old Man Cactus page is the best saying: "...Once considered a monotypic genus, Luckhoffia is now considered to be a natural hybrid between Hoodia species and Caralluma x L. beukmannii x L. beukmannii cristata..." Also helps explain why just about every picture (and my ...
