Re: is this seller legit?

At a guess, the seller seems to have a standing/running connection with a south of Texas border supplier. Perhaps a friend, relative or landscaper/worker who has been educated on the value of this species. His distance from the growing climate suggests this. And going back and forth between the two ...

Re: Agave ...or...Yucca?

Thanks much, Aiko! I searched for Agaves and Yuccas and it didn't show. Now with a name it's clear. And then finding the Flora of Red Rock Conservation Area....the cactus ID is Echinocereus engelmannii.

And possibly the full name of the Agave - Agave utahensis var nevadensis

Re: Agave ...or...Yucca?

Forgot to add scale. The cactus is golfball to tennis ball sized... the Agave? is volleyball sized.

Agave ...or...Yucca?

These are located just south of the Red Rock Conservation Area near Las Vegas. They are growing on a stone pinnacle, razor sharp limestone, IIRC. Is the plant an Agave species or a Yucca? In the one pic the Yucca behind it is easily identifiable. Two things are considered, location and heat. The roc...

Re: Hello from Utah...high mountain desert.

Hello Harald, first off thanks for the welcome! It was quite serendipitous to find this site having no previous notions to look up cactus care and best soil for them. I just thought " potting soil or local dirt"...gack! And I found last evening one of my Claret Cup specimens took one for t...

Re: A Blooming Thread

Trichocereus grandiflorus hybid. 9 buds in all! And after just one day of finding this website and joining this forum, I've learned I'm doing it all wrong! ha, ha! Lots of repotting to keep me busy over the next few weeks. After I finish gathering my potting mix ingredients. Way TOO much peat and di...

Re: Hello from Utah...high mountain desert.

Aiko - thanks for the response. The pic is a selfie while I was hiking and specifically looking for blooming cacti in Southern Utah, about 3 hours from Salt Lake City. We do have several species of cactus in our valley but the more interesting species live more southerly. Needless to say my hike was...

Hello from Utah...high mountain desert.

Hello all, first post, found the forum by accident searching for 'best cactus care/soil'...and here I am. I have a lifelong fancy of cacti...starting with my childhood recollection of my first encounter with one. My father is retired military and so at 5-6 years of age we were stationed at Mineral W...
