Re: Carnegiea with red markings

Could be sunburn, but hard to tell. I assume they are growing in a sunny position in the middle of summer where you live. Not strange to happen for plants. They just turn a bit red with intense sunlight.

Re: Updated seed lists

Mammillarienfreunde in Germany has published its seedlist for non-members. An excellent source for a lot of Mammillaria species, and also some other genera on the list.

See: www.mammillaria.eu/Shop and click on "Samenfond" to see the list.

Re: Seedlings in the winter

in general, after 1 to 1,5 years of age seedlings will be big and strong enough to overwinter same as mature plants. Indeed. Any plant the size of a pea can survive a cold and dark room without water for at least four months, that is how long mine have to stay in an unheated room during the winter....

Re: Do variegated G. Ragonesi exist?

Why look when you can see if you can grow one yourself from seeds. Buy a few hundreds or - better - thousands seeds and see what different kind of Gymnocalycijm ragonesi pops up. You can keep the prettiest ones and give away the rest. Seeds are not hard to get and in bulk not that expensive from the...

I assume you have tried to keep it cold in winter too, say close to 0C or maybe even lower on a regular basis?

Re: Updated seed lists

Ralf Hillmann has also updated his list. Partly cacti and a large part of (European) (hardy) succulents.

You can obtain his list via email automatically, if you have contacted him before. If not, send me a message and I can forward the seed list to you.

Re: MrXeric's seedlings 2022

Cochemiea theresae are my favorite cacti. I tried nicking the seeds which did accelerate the germination but also lead me to killing a few crushing the seeds. I found just sowing fresh seeds to work well. My seeds were sub 6 months old and germinated well. Many suggest 'aging' the seeds for atleast...

Re: When and how often to water Adenium cuttings

Water when a cutting has developed roots that can take up the water. Earlier than that is useless. Developing roots can take many weeks to even months for most cuttings. I do wonder if Adenium can be grown from cuttings. But then again, it will not hurt to try it when there is no rescue possible in ...

Re: Wintering

Open the windows on nights when the temperature does not go down much than around -2C or so. Then all cacti should be alright as most can handle a bit of frost (assuming you don't have specific heath lovers). Fresh air will be one of the best things you can provide for your plants year round. What d...

Re: Some of my seedlings

Perhaps customs don't pose an obstacle in your country, but here the only country which doesn't seem to need special routing through our department of agriculture (USDA) is France (so far). Well, I do send seeds around the world including the US. And for as far as I know almost every envelope makes...

Re: Some of my seedlings

Seeds are indeed expensive. But not difficult to find. Many of the Czech seed lists offers Pediocactus peeblesianus. If they are willing to send some seeds in a bubble wrapped envelope (and not in a box), I am quite certain they can easily pass customs without difficulty.

Re: Every day new flowers in the greenhouse in Köln

With all that rain from the last few weeks, and all those pots outside still being soaked, are you not afraid the pots will not dry out anytime soon? I brought some of my outdoor plants inside a week ago. But my outside bulbs are in much smaller pots. I keep them in an unheated room with two windows...

Really? Also the Geohintonia and the Aztekiums?
What kind of temperatures they have to endure on freezing nights?
