Re: Cactus Album app
Here are a few more screenshots, this time showing the watering schedule screen, along with what the main cacti list looks like when plants need watering. The device will also receive a local notification when one or more watering schedules trigger based on the dates entered. I figure it'd be better...

Re: More holiday cactus fever!
The only problem with bidding early and setting your maximum bid to begin with is you'll often pay more than you might otherwise. The approach most likely to minimize the cost and improve the likelihood of winning the auction is to bid in the final seconds. If there are multiple interested bidders f...

Looking good! Do these look much different than the source plants?

I've been busily working on the app, and have a few more screenshots showing where I'm at so far: CactusAlbum_Jan2_Cacti.png CactusAlbum_Jan2_CactiInfo.png CactusAlbum_Jan2_Photo.png I'm hoping it'll be ready for Beta testing by the end of the month, but might be as late as February if I hit any unf...

Re: New Year's Eve on the plant bench
It's warming me up just looking at all these photos. Beautiful plants. Best wishes for the New Year, and I hope you get that mild winter. It's business as usual up here!

Re: Monadenium ritchei offsets
I ended up having to throw the offsets away. The main plaint is doing fine, though. Lesson learned!
I think I picked this one up from the cactus show/sale at the Chicago Botanic Garden in 2008. The plant was much smaller then! See here.

Re: Geohintonia! Etc.!
Congrats on the new addition! I've been following their auctions again lately, and wondered why these ones in particular go for such huge sums. They had another one earlier this month that resulted in a similar bidding frenzy. And I thought the Whitesloanea crassa was rare. Wow! They always seem to ...

Re: Winter shriveling
Those are some startling examples! I know I had a tendency to overwater back when I first got into the hobby, after seeing the cacti start to shrivel. Unfortunately that often led to rot! It's nice to see this process illustrated so well, and to know it's nothing to worry about.

What Android devices do you guys use? Is it all about Samsung these days, or are there other popular ones overseas?

Re: Andrew's cacti collection
Thanks! I couldn't believe it when I saw that Whitesloanea crassa. I thought they were supposed to be pretty rare, but there must be enough in cultivation now that they've become more affordable. Never saw any circa 2008/2009.

Re: How not to kill a Pseudolithos cubiformis?
So they need the same watering regime year-round, or less water (say, once a month) in winter?

Re: How not to kill a Pseudolithos cubiformis?
Just got one of these in the mail today. It'll be growing under lights in our heated basement year-round.
I assume they need little water (or none?) during winter and a bit more regularly the rest of the year? I'd really like to avoid turning it into mush!
