Re: commercial cactus mix.. What is wrong with them.
commercial cactus mix.. What is wrong with them. It really depends on your growing conditions. Indio, CA gets less than 3.5 inches of rain each year. A commercial mix might be great there. Here in Houston where we get 50 inches per year and it's constantly humid, that ain't gonna work. Or least it ...

Re: Instagram accounts
I also avoid social media, but I did create an Instagram account a few months ago to share occasional garden pictures with friends and family, and I will say that has been nice. @cactimostly if anyone is interested.

I would also cut/remove any other areas that are soft or rotting. I would treat the entire thing wit...

Re: Astrophytum hybrids: later-generation (F2, F3, etc.) crosses
Really nothing to see here yet but I figured I'd at least post a germination pic. Seedlings are not even two weeks old so a few more are still coming up. The other pot of hybrids looks more or less just like the one in frame.

Covering buds to slow flower development
I saw this picture on Instagram and found it interesting. I'd never seen this before so I thought I'd share ...
