Re: Misnamed Ferocactus

Thanks for the correction and the positive ID. Yes, it's quite robust. I have no idea why it hasn't bud this year, I bought it with all flowers faded last year and gave it a chilly winter that lasted from November to May (I live in Toronto, Canada). Maybe it's just really late this year?

Misnamed Ferocactus

I’ve had this ferocactus for a year now. The tag labelled it as a wislizeni, but I had serious doubt after comparing it to the images online. What do you think? Thanks!

Plant about the size of an orange (7 cm or 3” in diameter)

Re: Ribbed cactus ID

looks like it indeed. I definitely did no expect this, as not once did Parodia gloss over my mind. Morphological wise it seems to stray far from that of typical Parodias. Thank you very much!

Ribbed cactus ID

Hi folks, Brought this home from a local market, and I’m having trouble honing in on even the genus. At first glance I thought it might be a ferocactus of some kind but most ferocactus aren’t this neatly ridged when small. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks! https://i.imgur.com/fC...

Re: Help with an I.D please

Hi Aiko, I understand your frustration and I agree with your sentiment, but don’t waste your energy on this. You actually expressed your frustration in this exact user’s post back in March yet it was ignored and he simply keeps on spamming ID requests. People are thick skinned in the cyberspace and ...

Re: An Unlikely Find (or not)

Thanks Aiko, I guess I'll know for sure in 10 years when it starts getting hairy near the top ;)
Turned out that M.azureus is fairly common in cultivation, but that doesn't subtract from how nice of a find this was.

An Unlikely Find (or not)

Unless I've been duped, I found a Melocactus azureus in a big box store in downtown Toronto (Canadian Tire). Yes, among all the glued-on straw flowers, no name echinopsis, and dyed opuntioids, a lone M. azureus sits in the tray waiting for me to stumble upon it by chance. Of course it's instantly mi...

Re: Questions for mineral soil mediums

In my personal opinion the hexalogue is a great educational read but it’s futile practically. 80% of the ingredients listed I could not attain, at least not locally.
