Re: A coryphantha?
I'm not sure about the ID but some cacti clones will offset and grow roots from the offsets easily before being separated from the mother plant. I have an Escobaria zilziana that does this and an E. zilziana that doesn't do this. Though, your plant doesn't look like E. zilziana.

Re: Melocactus pushing out white, cotton-like mass
Actually, looks like the flower was not pollinated and viable seeds were not produced. From this cactus I expect the seeds would be much more plentiful and black.

Re: Melocactus pushing out white, cotton-like mass
I don't think that is a Melocactus. I'd guess it is an Echinocactus polycephalus cotton top.

Re: Help saving this "Corn Cob"
This corn cob cactus is technically not a cactus. It is Euphorbia mammillaris. I've tried growing the variegated form of this a couple times. Unfortunately they seem to be a bit prone to rotting and once it gets in the plant it spreads fast. Don't feel too bad if you can't save it.

Re: How to safely and quickly dry cactus soil.
I've heard St. George has a lot of cacti. I know a guy in Pocatello, ID who went there and came back and began trying to talk me in to planting some cacti for him in front of his business. Though, I've not had experience with trialing larger cacti in southeast Idaho. Whatever he saw in St. George re...

Re: How to safely and quickly dry cactus soil.
Another idea just popped into me noggin....instead of REpotting it....would just UNpotting it work? As in lift it, have someone grip and slide off the pot. Then wrap a towel around it like swaddling a baby. Which is really only a few steps away from repotting it...but much quicker and easier. That'...

Re: How to safely and quickly dry cactus soil.
That looks like it would be a bear to unpot. You might be able to pop out the whole root-ball and wad of dirt, or whatever is in there, from the pot without it falling apart and put a fan on it. Sometimes when I've wanted a potted plant to dry out quickly I've used a bamboo skewer to poke some deep ...

Re: Caudiciform Cucurbits?
https://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCCULENTS/Family/Cucurbitaceae/26434/Seyrigia_humbertii I have a Seyrigia humbertii. I found it doesn't appreciate my overcast winters and requires a bit of supplemental lighting when indoors for the winter. According to Llifle it isn't exactly caudiciform but c...

Re: Organic things to add in a soil to germinate cactus and succulents
I don't have experience with trialing mixes containing the different media you list with all the different genera you asked about. However, I have tried a few seed starting mixes with some kinds of cold hardy cacti seeds. In the end I settled on using a mix of 1:1 of ground coconut coir and granite ...

Re: Sclerocactus seed starting advice?
Read sulfuric acid helps have not tried it be careful if you do I did do that. Surprisingly, so far, I found only one kind of Sclerocactus seed of the two species I was trying to germinate that reliably benefited from the acid treatment. I suspect this one kind of seed that responded well to the ac...

Re: Hardening off seedlings
I'm not sure I'm doing it the best way but I recently hardened off some seedlings. I started off with germinating them in small pots in a 10" x 20" flat in the house under some lights, covered with a dome. After they reached a size where they start to crowd each other or show signs of spin...

For those of us who regrettably missed the Sarnes' presentation you can have a look at the pics used in the presentation by going to http://www.netzmanager.de/BCSS_Zoom_Mee ... _Diary.pdf

Re: Maihuenia poeppigii (alpine cactus) care advice
I really am not sure what to do with the Pterocactus specimens, in particular, this summer... going to see what I can do with shade cloth to try to balance getting enough sun with at least trying to provide cooler temps. I have a Pterocactus tuberosus. It is really odd. The above ground parts are s...

Re: Maihuenia poeppigii (alpine cactus) care advice
I missed the Sarnes' talk about Patagonian cacti. I really wanted to watch that one. Did any one record it? I'd guess Zoom doesn't have a recording feature. I don't know.
