Re: First visit to Joshua Tree Nat. Park

Hey, sorry for the delay in reply. Mammillaria tetrancistra and dioica. JT is smack dab in tetrancistra's range, which extends north up through Death Valley almost into the White Mountains. JT is a little north for dioica--which is more often seen a little to the south in Anza Borrega or on the coa...

Re: Post winter watering

It depends on your climate and also on species you grow. I prefer graduate increase of watering in the spring, because weather here is cool with sudden changes. Some of my home plants have being watered the whole winter with bigger intervals and some get water just starting in May.

Re: Pictures of cacti next to rocks in habitat

George Do you know the species names for the Mammilaria and the Ferocactus? Great pictures!! Thanks Hagai Mammillaria dioica & Ferocactus cylindraceus. My theory is that aside from the sun shelter cacti growing next to rocks get more water because rainwater falling on that rock drains to the so...

Moorten Botanical Garden is still opened

Being in Palm Springs I visited this garden last month. Lot of plants, hard to judge how many species. Will show you some of the photos I've taken there. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53635884714_3de1f5ed74_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53635756878_2f6be54306_b.jpg https://live.sta...

Re: I am 45.If it is late to sow Ariocarpus seeds?

It is true. Sowing is worth just for doing seedlings, that can be given away, sold, or grafted. Some or many of my 10+ y. old seedlings are still not mature and this winter I was tempted again to sow some of my harvested seeds...

Found also some Mammillaria dioica actively growing and blooming already. Most were hiding next to some barrel cacti or other plants. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53621009415_a9da8cf561_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53620895689_1d6f070362_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...

Anza-Borrego this spring

Knowing about rainy weather this year in California I decided to visit Anza-Borrego park couple of weeks ago. Warmer and wetter conditions made this desert looking green and attractive. There was many people in the park. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53622311899_d61e1093e4_b.jpg https://live.s...
