CurtisMarauder wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2024 4:37 pm Not that I know of. If your mihanovichii is a moon cactus, I wouldn't count on it bringing a fruit all the way to maturity, though.
I have a few moon cacti I got seed from many times, so I’ll be using those.

Re: Need Id for this cactus

Looks like it was originally hard grown then potted in a more nutritious soil and produced more vigorous new growth. However the new growth does not look etiolated being a nice dark green. If some plants have been grown slowly, in order to blur the old growth into more vigorous new growth, you have...

Re: Gymnocalycium "Triple Trouble"

I’ve crossed mihanovichii black form as the pollen parent to mihanovichii Hibitan purple/red as seed parent and got fertile seeds. Pod took nearly 7 months to fully ripen! Pod will get pink color when seeds mature. Got a few seedlings that needed grafting but most grew on own roots. I’m seeing a lot...

Why can’t most cacti be Blue?

Melocactus is one of the few blue colored cacti. But for example why can’t the G. mihanovichii that comes in every mutant color be blue?

Re: Do variegated G. Ragonesi exist?

I’ve never seen these in variegated form, has anyone ever seen one or gotten variegated from seed growing? I’ve been looking for one for years. I have seen some offered by Bulgarian commercial nursery at a price of 15€ for grafted specimen. Not very appealing in my opinion: Grafted forms don’t grow...

Re: Do variegated G. Ragonesi exist?

Why look when you can see if you can grow one yourself from seeds. Buy a few hundreds or - better - thousands seeds and see what different kind of Gymnocalycijm ragonesi pops up. You can keep the prettiest ones and give away the rest. Seeds are not hard to get and in bulk not that expensive from th...

Re: Seedlings grew inside pod!

Yes, the fruit was ripe when this occurred. The odd part to go with this phenomenon is that the grafted G. mihanovichii seed pods never split open when ripe, so perhaps being inside a ripe seed pod for months is the perfect growing condition for slow growing seedlings like cacti and light does pass ...

Judging show quality cactus

I talked to a friend overseas in Thailand who specializes in growing variegated G. Mihanovichii. He told me they have cacti competitions to judge best breeders, and those winners then sell their stock for very high prices because of the value. Some go for $800 US dollars! 8-[ He told me cactus must ...

Re: How to ship seedlings only an inch?

Bare root the seedlings and wrap them in soft paper and put in a box and fill all empty space in the box with paper or foam pellets whatever is light. If the box weights more than 10 Oz and you use stamps it will be returned by the post office . Do they need to be misted with water or leave the pap...

How to ship seedlings only an inch?

How would you ship cacti seedlings only an inch big? Next year I’ll have over 200 seedlings I can’t keep but nobody local wants them.
If left in soil shipped they’ll just be buried or squished. Do you gently remove them and ship in a plastic container with a lid? Would they do ok?
