Re: Etiolated blue chalk help

I believe the standard procedure for this is to cut off the tops and re-root them. Cut with a sterile knife, and leave the cuttings out in a dry place for a few days to callous over before planting. However, I'm sure an expert will give you the final say-so, as I am not an expert. :)

Re: Unidentified Brown Spots

I couldn't stand it anymore. Half the plants were covered in these brown spots, and those are the halves that are left after the brown spots have already consumed a significant chunk of the plant. So I removed all leaves with spots. :crybaby: The plants look a little bare now but hopefully this will...

Re: My Lithops collection

I'm afraid I had the same problem with some of my Lithops as you did with your. L. karasmontana. They just dried up during late winter/early spring. Wonder why. :-k

Unidentified Brown Spots

I have a problem with two of my succulents, a Graptoveria 'Francisco Baldi' and Sedum pachyveria. They neighbor each other in my garden and are currently covered in these brown spots. I would deeply appreciate it if someone could tell me what is wrong and how to treat my plants. Here are my observat...

Please tell me that it is not dead. Please.

So this cactus, a Notocactus haselbergii, is looking very odd. The spines started to turn yellow at the growing point a couple of weeks ago. I didn't see any bugs but sprayed it anyway. The yellowing stopped. But the last couple of days, I've noticed the very center going black. After a close inspec...

I've been renovating...

The succulent bed, as of today. I have a flower on the O. humfiusa, with either a messload of new pads or more flowers on the way. Everything seems to be surviving and most things are thriving. I had no winter losses, but damage on the Aloe vera and Sansevieria trifasciata. The Aloe has mostly outgr...

Re: How many blue Pilocereus are there?

Interesting information. If I see it the next time I go to Walmart I'll try to leave it be. :) I have tropical conditions during the winter in the sense that it is humid, rains frequently, and often is 80 degrees on Christmas but live in a cold pocket that does see some of the colder temperatures oc...

Re: How many blue Pilocereus are there?

I appreciate the detailed response, James. Sounds like I should pass on this one, despite its eye catching appearance. :) I was thinking about putting it in my cactus bed (where we do get down to 25 a couple times a winter for a few hours overnight), but it seems like this would not be possible. Tha...

How many blue Pilocereus are there?

Saw one at Walmart today and wanted to get it, but was simply labeled "Pilocereus species." I need a species that can survive down to about 25 degrees. Are there many blue Pilocereus for me to sort through? I didn't think to snap a picture and don't remember much about it other than it was...

Better pictures of the other two, courtesy of new batteries. :)

I forgot to mention-- the leaf edges feel smooth on the Aeonium.

Re: A few I have lying around...

My camera died and I need to get more batteries before I can take more pictures, but I got a few before it quit on me. As for the Agave, maybe Agave filifera 'Plain Jane'?

Re: A few I have lying around...

Thanks very much for the suggestions, Rosemarie. I've done some research based on them. I think you're right on 1, but 2's leaves seem less long than the pictures I looked up? For 3, how about Aeonium nobile or haworthii 'kiwi'? I'll try to take better pictures and do more research tomorrow.

A few I have lying around...

Just wondering what they are called so that I can look up their freeze tolerance. Sorry for the lack of clarity. Let me know if additional pictures and/or information is needed. Thanks in advance!

Re: Cool stuff going!

Your seedlings are blowing mine out of the water. Way to big than mine. Even your four month plants are bigger than the ones I sowed last August. And we done them at the same time. You haven't seen the failures yet  But then I am in Gloomy UK/GB , and mine are getting no additional heating or...
