Re: Echinopsis and Mammillaria

The Mammillaria looks like it could be M. mazatlanensis, but I'm by far no expert

Re: My small collection

James, are those in pure pumice? Do you fertilize each watering? They're in about 60-70% pumice, with the rest made up of (mostly) coconut coir and some John Innes No. 2 compost (with any large organic pieces removed). So far I've fertilised them with a diluted low nitrogen fertiliser about once pe...

Re: Moon Cactus

Unfortunately I have no experience with grafting so I won't say anything about it in case it's completely wrong! I'm not sure if grafting can be done with older cacti though, I've only ever seen very young seedlings grafted

Re: Moon Cactus

The orange cactus on the top would have been a different species to the bottom green part, most likely a Gymnocalycium grafted onto a Hylocereus. It looks like it has rotted and is long dead but the remaining green Hylocereus is fine, I would cut off the top until there are no brown areas visible (w...

Re: My small collection

Bit of a cloudy day today but the temperature in the conservatory must have convinced my new Sulcorebutia langeri to open one of its flowers, and the second doesn't look too far behind :D I think this plant is quickly becoming one of my favourites S. langeri LH 718 3 - Copy.JPG S. langeri LH 718 4 -...

Re: Seedling Id needed

It won't be possible to get a definite ID for them at this stage, you might have to wait a year or two when they start to show more mature characteristics although mixed packets do tend to contain things like Echinocereus, Ferocactus and Opuntia. But I don't have any experience with what those seedl...

Re: My small collection

Gorgeous! Do you just do pumice as a top layer or how much is mixed in with your soil? It takes on such a nice color after watering with slightly acidic water... Yes it does go a nice colour! I use it in the mix too, about 70% pumice, with 15% coir and 15% mix of John Innes No. 2 compost and sandy ...

I think it's normal. If the stem is getting longer and the rosette becomes less compact, that's a sign of etiolation
Thanks, I'll just wait and see what happens with it, hopefully it'll be alright

My small collection

This year has allowed me to expand my small collection a little (while I'm not at uni), until now it was mostly seedlings, my family have moved house so I have the partial use of a nice south facing conservatory. Partial because I've only filled two 2 foot by 6 inch trays and my Mum has already firm...

An Echeveria and Haworthia

I've had both of these plants for a couple of years, the Echeveria was from a leaf cutting and the Haworthia from an offset. I've never had a definite ID and they're both growing quite well so I thought there might be a good chance of getting one. The best I've come up with are Echeveria lilacina an...

Re: Crowded Pots and repotted seedlings

In my collection it is labeled as Wigginsia sessiliflora var. macracantha. I assume P. sellowii to be a synonym, and Notocactus macracanthus is a synonym too. Oh yes I remember now, that was it, I must have searched the name and remembered the synonym instead #-o I'll label them as Wigginsia sessif...

Re: Crowded Pots and repotted seedlings

Yes, when the pot breaks, I take it as a gentle hint :) Make sure the Epithelantha aren't overpotted. They seem like they produce a lot of roots, but only up to a point, and they really don't do well in a pot bigger than the roots. Those Turbinicarpus might actually flower next spring, believe it o...

Re: Crowded Pots and repotted seedlings

Thanks everyone, glad to hear they're doing well. Yes Aiko, they were seeds that you sent me, as were the M. mazatlanensis and P. sellowii (sent as Notocactus macracanthus I believe). They all had excellent germination rates :D
