Re: Xerophilia - another free online journal

Saxicola, I can share a lot of thing, but... I've spent more than one year of my life in Mexico, and I had some experience with some Mexican public herbaria: maybe I was unlucky in the choice of the latter, but I found the best profesionalism, seriousness and, above all, passion in Hinton Herbarium....

Re: Xerophilia - another free online journal

I'd like to make a comment regarding the publication of Corynopuntia guccinii from the standpoint of a plant taxonomist. The author listed the holotype as residing in a personal herbarium. While this is allowed by the ICBN, it is considered very bad practice because it can make actually seeing and ...

Re: Corynopuntia nigrispina sp. nova

Hi and thanks. Herbarium G.B. Hinton (GBH) is a private Mexican herbarium, but one of the most famous, since the holotypes of many very interesting plants are deposited there, like Mammillaria luethyi, for example. It's listed in the "WORLD INFORMATION NETWORK ON BIODIVERSITY" of CONABIO (...

Re: something about cacti and water

This is an in-vitro Austrocylindropuntia vestita. Thank to a gel (agar soil) added with hormons, organic and inorganic nutrients, it's possible to obtain, from few meristematic cells, the callus (the green blob on the foreground), then, with another soil, it's possible to differentiate the callus in...

Re: something about cacti and water

Hi Bruno,
not yet, I need some other data.
Anyway I was surprised by the growth rate of many opuntioids (but also other cacti) in hydroponic and tissue culture.

Re: something about cacti and water

A lot of cacti and succulents can grow in hydroponic condition for their entire life, with the right fertilizer, the right media (rockwool or leca) and the right conditions. Yuccas, for example, can grow 4-6 times faster. I'm presently a consultant for a micropropagation project of cacti and succule...

A new subspecies of Turbinicarpus viereckii

Hi, I know your interest in new plants. I cannot post the entire article this time, but on Piante Grasse Journal 1/2012 (now in English) Danel Labhart describes a new subspecies of Turbinicarpus viereckii, T. viereckii subsp. reconditus. I helped him with the description, and I can affirm the plant ...
